IFC developing several series from UCB alumni
IFC announced a development slate for the 2018 season including three projects from UCB alumni. Congratulations to creators Jocelyn DeBoer & Dawn Luebbe, Carl Foreman Jr. and Josh Ruben.
Now It seems that UCB, more than stand-up and more than just about anything else, is really a training ground for show business, for comedy business, for the comedy industry...The experience you get with working with other people and with writing and with improv really prepares you for a lot of levels, a lot of different things in getting into comedy as a business.
If I wouldn't have been lucky enough to have the profession I have, I probably would have gone through Upright Citizens Brigade and tried to become a cast member on SNL.
2009: the year Marc Maron started "WTF"; the year Broad City launched as a web series; the year Aziz Ansari taped his first stand-up special; the year Rob Delaney joined Twitter; the year Parks and Recreation, Community, and The League premiered, and Ellie Kemper joined The Office; when it seemed like UCB was the unofficial farm team for Saturday Night Live and every sitcom on TV.
I don't live that close to UCB or I'd go there all the time; I've performed there a few times. I wish I lived right next door and I'd just move in. It's fun.
Best Lessons in Hilarity
The epicenter of comedic influence in Los Angeles
It's an incredible place. You really feel like you're part of something special.
After I got into the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre... I was like, 'I'm home!'
The improv mecca of New York City
You could cast a sit-com just from hanging out there for a week.
A place for the in-jokesters. A clubhouse for celebrity comics.
The de facto [alt comedy] headquarters
...the hippest of New York's comedy rooms, and home to the highest-quality improv in the city.
Best five-dollar-per-person date: Harold Nights at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre
Best acting class for non-actors
...the city's best improv workshop
In an example of selflessness uncharacteristic of the successful, ticket prices for all shows are... cheaper and funnier than a lap dance!
Los Angeles has the Groundlings, Chicago is known for the Second City. Now, thanks to the Upright Citizens Brigade, New York City may finally find a place on the comedy map of famous troupes.
New York City's only relevant live comedy troupe
Not since Woody Allen's 'Bananas' has revolution been so funny
Smart writing and solid acting by the goofy, hip and subversive
New York's hardest-working sketch comics
witty, irreverent, and conceptually ambitious
twisted and uproarious
UCB has always done it a cut above the rest. To see what separates the men from the boys, see 'Asssscat.'
Matt Besser, Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts and Matt Walsh have adapted and mastered the techniques of jazz-riff improvisation... we are treated to smart interconnections of words and ideas, and the laughs that come are deeper and more penetrating than from a sitcom rim shot.
...a combination of subtly clever intellectual comedy and slapstick nonsense that packs a powerful punch.
Experiencing truly brilliant improv comedy is like sitting in the front car of a really smart roller coaster ride with no stretches of straight track. Right now in America, no one is offering a more exhilerating ride than the Upright Citizens Brigade.
We like whatever they're using
