The Sunshine Gang

During the Depression of the 1930's The WPA created jobs for the unemployed. Great things were built at that time -- the Interstate Highway system, countless damns and waterways and new government buildings.

The WPA also hired actors, painters and writers to entertain, paint murals and write great plays. A little known segment of the arts program was dedicated to finding a new art form that was brought to the people. This art form would empower the people, make them think, get them off of their feet and react to what was going on around them.

It was called long-form improvisation. It was a great succsess and was sweeping the nation until the government shut it down. They called it unamerican and communistic in philosophy. This was not what they had in mind, they just wanted simple entertainment.

After 70 years it has come back.
