TIME OUT NEW YORK APPROVED

starring Mike Birbiglia

Time Out New York presents some of their favorite comics!

Including: Mike Birbiglia, Eric Andre, Heather Lawless, Kurt Metzger, Rob Lathan, John Roberts, & Tim Minchin

Mike Birbiglia achieved comedy cult status in 2006 with the nationwide release of his Comedy Central CD Two Drink Mike and Medium Man on Campus college tour. For the past 6 years, Mike has toured the country honing the act that would make him one of the youngest comedians to ever appear on The Late Show with David Letterman. Along the way, he popularized the phrase “Cracker Please” and renamed George W. Bush “Whiffle Ball Tony.”

Tim Minchin’s dark, piano-driven, pop-comedic cabaret stylings have received increasing critical and public acclaim in the last 3 years. His 2005 show, “Dark Side” won the Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Festival Directors’ Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and was featured at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. In 2006, “So Rock” was nominated for Most Outstanding Show at the MICF, sold out at the Edinburgh Fringe and garnered awards for Best Show, Best Original Songs and Best Artiste in the cabaret category of the Green Room Awards. In 2007, he won Best Alternative Comedian at the HBO US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen Colorado and toured the UK and Australia.

Eric Andre has been doing stand-up in New York since 2004, but began his career as a stand-up comic in Boston while attending Berklee College of Music. Eric was a finalist in NBC’s Stand-Up for Diversity showcase. He also did HBO’s 2007 Aspen Comedy Festival. He's a Geico Caveman and he's also on this year's season of Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham. Don't taze me bro. I'm drunk.

John Roberts was recently featured on Vice Magazine's VBS.TV and his first viral video "The Christmas Tree" was hailed as an instant comedy classic. It was nominated for a broadband Emmy award and was featured on VH-1's Best Week Ever, Comedy Central's Insider and countless blogs and websites. The follow up "Jackie & Debra" won The Comedy Smalls award in London, was featured on YouTube, and has a huge tween following. Even with all that, John is just getting warmed up! He formed the band Opti-Grab which went on to play with such acts as Blondie, Gogol Bordello, Scissor Sisters and Tom Tom Club. His recent musical collaborations with Debbie Harry, Jack Pierson, and The Ones, are sure to make 2007 a rock hard year. Be sure to look out for John's solo debut EP "Get Blown" due out this fall!
