Betsy Stover

Betsy has been with the UCBT since 1997, serving as a performer, writer, director, coach, and teacher. She has performed in such shows as "The Real Real World," "Piledriver," "Robot TV," "Double X," "Beyond The Valley Of The Switchblade Pussycats," "Mobile Assault Unit," and many others that she either can't remember or can't bear to remember.
Betsy Stover grew up in Minneapolis, MN. In high school, she improvised at the Brave New Workshop, the oldest comedy theater in the United States, and performed weekly shows and traveled with the short form troupes, Improv Olympix and Comedy Sportz.
Betsy went to NYU and studied acting, directing, and production design at Tisch's Playwrights Horizons Theater School. She studied improv with Ian Roberts, Matt Walsh, Amy Poehler, and Matt Besser, as well as sketch comedy writing with Ali Farrahnakian and Matt Besser. Betsy has also studied improv with Armando Diaz, Mick Napier, Joe Bill, and Mark Sutton.
She is proud of her past contributions as an original cast member of UCBT's: The Real Real World, as teen sleuth Nancy Drew; Piledriver, an improvised pro-wrestling show, as Whorey-Whorey, the ex-porn star turned feminist wrestler; in Harold teams including Cowbot, Ice-Nine, T.R.U.C.K.S., and most recently, The Scam; and in a million other UCBT shows, including the two NYC Soundtracks Live shows directed by, respectively, Amy Poehler and David Wain.
She wrote and performed two long-running sketch shows with her comedy partner, Katty Biscone. Betsy & Katty's eponymous debut was directed by Rob Corddry and was also performed in the HBO / Warner Brothers performance space in LA. Betsy has directed many improv teams, plays, and sketch shows including Rode Hard and Put Away Wet which was an official selection for the Aspen Comedy Festival. Betsy has has appeared in countless sketches on NBC's Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and has starred in many radio and television commercials.
Betsy has improvised now for 14 years, the last 10 at UCBT, where she has taught improv since 2001. She lives with her husband and fellow UCBT teacher and performer, Ari Voukydis, and their dog on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
