Thank you for your interest in the Upright Citizens Brigade Training Center. We are very excited to have you begin and/or continue your training with us. The UCB Training Center is committed to the principle that our students are the heart of our organization.
We believe in every student's right to learn and practice their craft in an open, non-threatening, creative environment. In order to achieve this, we just ask that you read and agree to our Enrollment Policy before you register for class. Cool?
Age Requirement
You must be 18 years of age or older to sign up for this course. If you are 16-17 years old, you may take the course by having a Parent/Guardian contact the Training Center Manager(212.929.8107, classes@ucbt.net). If you are under the age of 16, you can not take participate in the UCB Training Program at this time.
Attendance
Improv is a group activity that is best learned in a creative and supportive learning environment. The best way to support yourself and your fellow classmates is to attend all 8 classes. Absences hinder your growth as an improviser and in turn effect your ability to support your classmates in class and on stage. If you can not attend all 8 scheduled classes, we recommend you wait until a course you can fully commit to is available.
UCB Training Center understands that emergencies do happen so absences are allowed, but to maintain course integrity we do not allow more than TWO absences. Upon a third absence you will be REMOVED from the course.
Removal means you can not attend any more classes or participate in the graduation show. Once removed, if you wish to continue your training, you will have to repeat the level at full tuition price.
For information about making up missed classes, please see our Make-up policy.
Make-Up Policy
Students are expected to attend all 8 classes, but we understand that emergencies do happen, so TWO absences are allowed. Because we are committed to our students we offer Make-Up classes when we can.
Make-ups are not mandatory.
Make-ups do not cancel out missed classes. For example, if you miss 3 classes and did one make-up, you will still be removed from the class.
Make-ups are NOT guaranteed. This is do to limited class capacity and possible scheduling conflicts.
Make-ups will NOT be schedule for class #1 or #8.
Students will be placed in the class number they missed. And ONLY the class number they missed. If you miss class #4, you will be placed in another class #4.
If we do not have the class you missed available, you won\\\'t be able to make up the class.
As soon as you miss a class, or know you will be missing a class you should CALL the Training Center Manager to schedule a make. 212.929.8107. Make-ups are only scheduled over the phone. DO NOT EMAIL.
Make-ups will only be scheduled while your course is in session; this is why it is important to call as soon as you know you will miss your class.
We do not schedule make-ups for missed make-ups. If you schedule a make-up and can no longer make it, you must give 48 hours notice if you want to try to reschedule.
If you do not give 48 hours notice, we will not be able to reschedule your make-up.
Do not show up to another course section without consent from the school manager. If you show up to an unscheduled make-up it will be considered inappropriate conduct and could result in removal from your course & or Training Center Improv Program.
Show Requirement
As a student it is important for you to see long form improv in action. In order to move on to the next level, one of your requirements is to see TWO improv shows at the UCB Theatre. Both Shows must be seen before your graduation performance. If you do not see your two show requirement before your graduation performance, you are still allowed to participate in your graduation show, but you will NOT be allowed to move on to the next level. To make this easier for you, you will receive a student ID on the first day of class. The ID gives you access to free stand-by tickets for improv shows at the UCB Theatre Monday-Thursday Nights, along with any graduation shows Monday-Sunday. Awesome!
Lateness
Prompt attendance is expected from all students. Students are encouraged to make it to their class on time so that they can participate in warm-up exercises before the class begins working on performing scenes and other exercises. Arriving late requires the instructor to explain exercises and concepts again and is considered too disruptive to be allowed.
Exceptions will NOT be made. If you show up late and beg your teacher to let you in, this is even more disruptive and is considered inappropriate conduct which could result in removal from the school. (See Conduct Policy for more information). Just don\'t show up late. Cool?
Leaving Early
If a student leaves class more than 15 minutes before the official end time, this will be considered an absence. Students are expected to be present for the entire class.
