CREDIT FOR PREVIOUS TRAINING

Students who have studied comedic acting and writing at other institutions are welcome to apply for advanced standing. The Training Center Manager and Academic Supervisor will review all cases on an individual basis.

Advanced standing allows experienced students to skip improvisation level 101 and begin the program in 201. The vocabulary and core concepts taught in improv 201 are unique to the UCB Training Center and every student in our student body must take it.

Advanced standing will only be granted to students who have studied extensively at institutions the UCB Training Center deems to have a similar style and comedic vision. The institutions in question must meet the same standards of quality and educational integrity we strive for at the UCB Training Center. Currently, the UCBT offers advanced standing to students who have studied at IO Chicago, IO West, and the Second City. All previous students of these schools must still apply for advanced standing. Students of other institutions may also apply for advanced standing; their experiences will be reviewed and decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.

The UCB Training Center reserves the right to contact the administrative staff of those other institutions that students cite when applying for advanced standing to seek reports and opinions on the student's previous experiences.
