Storytelling and Solo Work 201 — Storytelling and Solo Work 201

Tuesdays 6:15-9:15pm starting Mar 09, 2010
Prerequisites: Completion of Storytelling and Solo Work 101
Cost: $350

Learn how to take your true-life material to the next level. You will finish this class able to develop your own voice further in order to move on to complete (or start) that one person show, stand up act, storytelling act, or memoir. Each student will leave class with 2-4 completed stories as told in \"their voice,\" yet relateable to any audience. Students will be given topics to write about weekly, challenging themselves to tap even deeper into their own lives to find true, humorous, universal material.

Students should leave class with the skills needed to dig into their lives for a story on virtually any topic. This is useful for auditioning, public speaking, memoir writing, live performing, stand up comedy, one-person shows and basic entertaining. A lot of the in class work will focus on simultaneously becoming both a stronger solo performer and writer. Topics covered in class include: Character, emotion, finding the full circle, performance, polishing, the unexpected, and flaws. Expect to let your guard down completley to uncover the hilarity that lies within out true lives.

This class is equally a writing AND performance class.

Margot Leitman regularly appears as various characters on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien," in addition to appearances on VH1's "Best Week Ever," ESPN's "Cheap Seats," AMC, the Style Network, E!, Comedy Central and NBC Broadband. Most recently she can be heard as the voice of "Fox" on the new Spike TV cartoon "The Team."

Her monthly sex-themed storytelling show "Stripped Stories" (co-hosted by Giulia Rozzi) has a cult following, has been called "Fresh, honest and raunchy? by BUST Magazine and was a featured Village Voice choice and Time Out NY critic's pick.

Her critically acclaimed solo show "Just Here For the Day" had a six month run at the UCB Theatre (both NY and LA) in addition to her follow up piece, "Slow Night" (co-written by Sarah Burns) which also ran for six months at the UCB Theatre and was a New York magazine critic's choice.

Margot has been featured in Glamour magazine, and the books "Fifty Dates Worse Than Yours" and "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Jokes." She has written online for the Lifetime Network, College Humor.com, EHow.com and in print for Playgirl Magazine. Her stories will appear in three different anthologies slated for publication in 2008/2009.
